Why does a scifi-show keeps going back to its history? Let's keep it moving forward, y'know?

I agree and the original series didn't like Pike so he was replaced with Captain Kirk. Number One and Spock seem redundant characters.

It's very "this has all happened before and will happen again".

I don't get it either. It's been nearly SIXTY years since Star Trek premiered and we're still in the exact same place with the exact same crew.

As soon as I saw "Story by Akiva Goldsman and Alex Kurtzman" I was like oh, here go hell come. And I wasn't wrong. Same old brain-dead endlessly-cynical tripe that can't do a simple fucking metaphor without beating you over the head with it. Kurtzman would've had Gul Dukat wear swastikas just to make absolutely sure you got the reference

When will Alex Kurtzman leave us alone? He is genuinely one of the biggest hacks in show business.

.Strange new uniforms.
The thing these hacks, who don't actually like Star Trek, or care about it's legacy, don't get is that the old shows understood that when the characters were at work, they were professional af. They played around, sure. But not when faced with either a serious diplomatic moment or imminent danger. At most, there may have been a moment of gallows humor when facing almost certain death. That they of course avoided.
But these new show runners and film directors, think that because of unintentional camp going back to the first original show and decades of parody about sci fi being now baked in to the genre to some extent, that means everything can be playful, not taken completely seriously within the show itself, even at the risk of making what are supposed to be highly trained professional officers and crew, into little more than lucky bumblers who refuse to take themselves too seriously.
That isn't Star Trek. That isn't even good writing.
