Because entertainment reporters are basically shills with a light gloss of journalistic ethics.
They'll ask hard questions to retain a semblance of objectivity but only in ways that won't lose them access or make anybody mad enough to ban them from anything.
And people in social media spaces are very concerned with being self righteous to the point that anyone who worked with a problematic star will get raked over the coals for doing so, no matter when or in what context. But it always seems to only happen to actors who have no power or influence or Stan base. So no one annoys the stars or producers Elgort has worked with but goes after a relatively new celeb like Zegler or Dubose for comments.

Ouch, your second sentence is unfortunately too true. It’s that vicious circle too, because journalism is stacked with young women but many of the big names and editors are still white men, even in entertainment. So the women, especially non-white women, have to fight, be more inventive and go harder (but not too hard!) to prove themselves or get the story (which lbr the men are often just handed). But since they’re not the big names their assignments will often be the younger, less established, female celebs ( ... )

I’m glad she said something bc it is unfair that Ariana and Rachel and Rita were asked about it on the press tour while Ansel wasn’t. he wasn’t asked about it while promoting his new HBO Max show and neither were his male co-stars. why is it their responsibility to answer when he’s right there, especially when their answers very easily bring the wolves and judgment down on THEM.

so many ppl in the DM subreddit were bringing up the Ansel situation during the Oscar invite drama as a reason to hate her when she’s like. 20 and just starting her career while the 28 year old dude who actually did it gets to sit in time out and clock back in after a few months.

he didn't do any solo press for West Side Story, but he did group interviews and attended both premieres and the Critic's Choice Awards. he has done some press for his HBO Max show, solo and with Ken Watanabe.

This happens way too often in Hollywood (and irl) where actresses are asked and held accountable to explain their co workers actions, and the actual perpetrator is protected in a PR bubble, safe from any negative talk.
