This is why I don’t like sex scenes in general. I feel like most of the time they’re made under male gazeiness, even with a female director. I also have never found sex scenes ever actually needed in order to understand a character better or something. I don’t need to see two people damn near naked to understand what’s going on in the relationship, whatever it may be. Any morning after scenes or just before scenes work just fine.

genuinely the only sex scene I think I've ever seen that felt like it was saying something about the character was the one between marion cotillard and matthias schoenaerts in rust & bone, and it was very short.

And it gets a +1 from me as it has Matthias in it

Maybe it's because I'm on the ace spectrum but I totally agree.

Like with Austen, Bridgerton etc - the sexiest scenes or the ones where you feel most for the characters is that yearning - the looks, the touches etc. When they finally have sex it can be touch and go on if it adds anything else to what we already know. Some of the laziest writing is when they have sex without this build up of tension, so I feel nothing for that relationship when they finally get together.

Just watched Mrs Maisel S4 and the build up of one of the relationships was done really well, as the sexiest times was when the two characters just looked at each other, danced and quipped. You know that they care for each other and are sexually attracted, but they waited so long for the physical act (which I think will be a one off as well) and hopefully presented as a way in which they confirm their love - whether romantic or friendship - for each other. And I should add, that the actual sex shown was very brief (under the covers, just kissing), and more a ~fade to

Every day more and more I feel vindicated for rme at the actresses saying it's not big deal and puritanical criticism blah blah but like I was right even though you're booing me!! I have a theory they're all gaslit/groomed into this from drama school or just the overall environment even if they are fine with doing nudity.

"And someone is supposed to arrive with a robe, and they don’t. It comes afterwards - [the knowledge that] that was not right. I should have been looked after.”

Emilia Clarke mentioned similar! She was just all naked on set one day and it wasn't until Jason Mamoa was like "uh can someone get her a robe" and told this is not proper set etiquette. She mentioned being grateful that he looked out after her.

same! i don't even watch euphoria, but it made me think of that actress on the show who was expected to be naked and shoved into an air vent. who is protecting these women?

Wasn't it a porn actress that Sam Levinson had spotted thanks to her "funny" insta, and not her Euphoria porn parody? Or was it yet another one?

“..everyone was busy doing their own thing and, in the middle, you have an actor who sits there naked for a couple of hours. And someone is supposed to arrive with a robe, and they don’t.”

Jfc. That sounds absolutely fucking deliberate like that being an accident or oversight is impossible like….fucking hell. Horrendous.

what the fuck

film and television productions need an intense overhaul. i can't imagine ever feeling like this. you're in such a vulnerable position no matter how comfortable you are in your own skin. it's just fucking common courtesy to ensure someone is comfortable on set and cared for.

i hate hearing these stories. if any woman who was treated like this said something about it, they'd be labelled difficult.
