It's still so wild to me that a term that originated in the black community CLEARLY meant to be tongue in cheek has broken so many conservative brains lmaoooo.

We’ve got Louis ck. That doesn’t work for you? What about a Jared Leto? It’s vegan but not cruelty free. Not feeling that, well, we have Kanye if you’re feeling secular. And if you’re into ladies, we’ve got Amy Schumer or Hope Solo who may protect America’s goals but not her children. The last thing I have in back is genocide deniers.

Cancel culture (at least for rich people) is not real. It's called consequence culture and even then the consequences are usually temporary. This is exactly why I am not pressed about the Will Smith/Chris Rock entanglement. Neither one is getting canceled; both will be fine. Will Smith is dealing with temporary consequences for smacking someone on live TV and Chris Rock is dealing with the temporary consequences of a joke that was not well received.

I cannot even be mad at the Grammys because they've always been very clear that they allow anyone who meets the standards/rules for submission to submit and if nominated, their opinion is, it's up to the voters. They have never tried to both sides it; they've always been like, don't care about what they do personally, we aren't looking at arrest records, morality, criminality, etc etc etc.

So my question is who voted to give CK, Kanye, and Marilyn Grammys?

I think the issue many have is that it is hard to see what consequences Chris has faced as a result of his joke beyond Will slapping him. Has he had to apologize to Jada? Has he had gigs put on hold?

Oh I don’t think that’s the sort of consequences he’s facing anyways - I think they’re more psychic consequences (like of the psyche, not like ESP lol) like his being smacked for a joke probably got him to think more about the jokes he tells than any criticism could’ve done.

There were never going to be professional consequences for Chris Rock.

Thanks. There are also likely professional consequences for him that have yet to be fully seen. People going to his shows might start pushing the envelope to see what they can get away with, people will go just to heckle and try to get a reaction out of him, etc etc etc. But as I already said, they will be short term and will pass; same for Will. All this to again say that cancel culture isn’t real, ESPECIALLY when it comes to celebs and rich people…it’s more like temporary consequences culture.

i saw someone try to lessen the severity of the shit he did to a female comic by saying some shit like "at least he asked if he could do it first", i think people really think that what he did exists in some murky grey area because it isn't full-on sexual assault, so like. we live in the bad place and cancel culture is a joke
