Oh, so this is why he took to the courts to attack her.

I'm at the end of he second episode, I think it is pretty well paced and the traumatic information is evenly spread out to not be overwhelming. Both her strength and vulnerability really stand out. I am especially impressed that she calls out not only her abuser, but also how shitty her parents were.

I wish her all the best.

I agree that they did a good job spacing out descriptions of the many truly horrifying things he did to her which really helped me watch both episodes in one sitting. With some other documentaries about abuse, I had to stop watching several times because hearing about so many of the details at once was too overwhelming and anxiety inducing.

I’m guessing all that therapy also helped her process the various issues she had with her parents. I’m so glad her brother was always there for her because it was clear that her parents were not. Even after her dad supposedly cleaned up his act, he still wasn’t there for her. “I’m in a play right now.” My heart broke for her when she reached out to him and that’s all she got. I wonder how much money her mom took from her before she looked into her finances. She seems to have accepted that her parents love her even if they don’t always treat her the way she would like.

that bit where she said she didn't like to ask much from her father because she was used to him not coming through and still only for him to leave her hanging... heartbreaking.

Unpopular Opinion, Thirteen should have never been made. I saw it in the local indie theater, when I lived in Houston. I went at least twice a month to see indie movies there. Well when I saw Thirteen I went to an early matinee showing, I noticed that a lot of men were there to see it alone. Make of that what you will.

I'm watching this right now. I guess because I am around the same age as ERW and missed the Thirteen discourse, I did not realize how young she was during filming. Again, kids don't belong in Hollywood. Marilyn Manson, like all predators, can acutely sense vulnerability.
