I do remember really early on in lockdown When people were still thinking it would be over by summer I was like nah this is going to be three years, a year to make the vaccine, a year to get everyone vaccinated, and then a year for it to die out

I hugely underestimated how large the anti vax population would be

And there are a lot of people that went through 2021 as if the pandemic ended when 2020 did. There are a lot of idiots out there.

I remember when Fauci was like yeah this is going to be here for two years and tbh I think he underestimated the anti-vax population too.

I've seen so many people mock the whole "two weeks to slow the spread" lockdown but there seem to be quite a few people who legit thought that would be it.

I can't remember the exact date but when the first case hit the US, I think it was January 2019(?), that's when it got real for me. Even though it hadn't quite hit where I was, I knew the US was not at all equipped to contain nor manage it. Our leaders are far too stupid for that.

Same for me, except it had already arrived in my area by then. I knew by the way my management team acted that it wouldn’t go well - I worked for a government agency at the time and they didn’t respond very quickly to what was obviously a bad situation. It didn’t feel like anyone was taking it seriously until the first known “outbreak” at a local nursing home, and even then people were still trying to schedule large events like training and celebrations. I refused to go to any of them (and they couldn’t make me, because I’d accepted a promotion and was on my way out anyway) and was mocked for it, but within a week we were getting ready to shut everything down.

Jan/Feb of 2020 was so strange - I had coworkers in Seattle who were falling ill and being ordered to WFH, but no one really said why. The dots hadn't been connected, it still wasn't big news nationally, and us East Coasters weren't seeing the same patterns. Until March hit, of course.

I remember being like „you think this will still be going on by July?!? I don’t think so!!!!“ on social media

The week shit really started to hit the fan, I still managed to go to the last Maluma concert in Europe. One week later, everything was shut down. We still do not have full on concerts in my country. I have to fly to another country in summer to go to a concert. Insane

My kid and I had dentist appointments for a check-up / cleaning on the 13th. By Monday it came out that a dental conference in our area was a super spreader event that kicked things off here and dentist's office hang up on me when I called and asked if we needed to self-isolate since they all went. Then her daycare shut down for 7 weeks by 17th.

I remember being on transit down near the convention centre the last day of that dentist conference and seeing all the people with their swag bags, and wondering if it was really that smart for the conference to still be happening.

couple days later the case counts shot up.

that and the Rugby Sevens which I think was the same weekend at the start of March. I saw a post from a coworker on IG where she and a friend were at the game and drinking from the same cup, and I remember just thinking how bad this was probably going to get.

thank you! ❤ i've been reading about long covid a lot and found some comfort in knowing my things might go back to normal in a couple of months.
