his childhood was criminal. that could've been a post on it's own but i wanted to keep things lighter since my last post was about his death.

the fact that he managed to be SUCH an inimitable force of light while he was alive, in spite of how badly and frequently he was taken advantage of, is a miracle in itself.

I was obsessed with him when I was younger. The thing called love was one of my favourite cheezy movies, well, still is actually. I rewatch all of his movies every so often. There's sooo many amazing ones.

honestly he never had a bad performance! TTCL was adorable, but he looked and seemed very unwell which makes it hard for me to enjoy as much. there's a picture from his last official photoshoot where he's still sporting his TTCL hair and it shocks me whenever i see it:

i get that he was in denial but it's hard for me to believe that everyone around him was also in denial when he looked so obviously messed up. poor sweet baby.

his costar in TTCL and Dogfight said this:

“I felt really bad, because I felt like he was there for everybody, and nobody was there for him. I knew maybe there were problems…but he was such a great actor that he would just totally calm my nerves. I mean, he would make you feel crazy for even asking him, "Is everything all right?”. Who’s career do you think he would have if he hadn’t passed? A lot of people say Leo, and I get that Leo catapulted because he was a River replacement but I think he would have gone a lot weirder and darker, and would probably be more of a Willem Dafoe type.

Depp was my first thought but I couldn’t see River making so many of the cheesy choices Johnny did.

it's so clear to me in this post that johnny depp has and is forever trying to be a modicum of what River was

but ofc we'll never know what choices River would've made. i'd like to think he wouldn't have bothered with all the crap johnny depp has done
