Get Back, released on November 25th 2021, is a documentary series that reworks the 1970 documentary of the same name. With three parts, it clocks in at just under 8 hours of footage from January 1969.
While John does help a bit in this film, it is quite obvious that he has checked out of the band.
See, I thought that was just what he was like lmao
I appreciate Peter Jackson wanted to influence the film as little as possible, but I know nothing about the Beatles and this is the kind of context that would have helped me understand some of the significance of this film. Same with the Yoko thing, I thought the screaming was just being silly in between takes.
Lol that is definitely my opinion. I feel like you can tell how frustrated Paul is with him throughout the film - like he was not really joking when he was talking about Yoko breaking them up but he was so worried John would walk that he didn't seriously approach it.
From all accounts I've read, John really 'came alive' when he met Paul, but he was a lot more engaged pre-Get Back. I truly think he was ready to not be in the group anymore and their weird co-dependency did not help.
i actually thought he was only checked out in the first part, and that was because he was clearly on drugs, to the point of talking about it candidly with cameras right on him. you can tell hes sobered up a bit in the last 2 parts because hes way more engaged and involved.
She was so lovely in motion! I’ve only seen photos of her and I always thought she was pretty (like in hometown girl way) but the movie made me like DAMN this white girl serving looks!
Yeah out of all of them Ringo definitely had his head on and was the most aware that this was the end. I've never been a big John person but this cemented my opinion of him.
I could see why people thought he was charming and he was definitely funny but had an underlying tone of nastiness that I picked up. He did write some great tunes and was patient and kind to a mentally ill Brian Wilson so I can't fully hate him.
Yeah out of all of them he seemed the most human? Not in like a glorifying way but the most aware that he was a person and that he was being filmed. He was already dead by the time I was born so a lot of what I've read is reflecting on him. The way he treated his first wife and older son is insane.
He def had his moments and I feel like really did want like, peace on Earth. How he wanted to get there is up to interpretation, and he was a fantastic writing partner for Paul and the fact George gives him a lot of credit says a lot.
honestly if my family hadn't started it DURING thanksgiving dinner i would've put it off too - it's long but once you start it's easy to just keep it on.
