The prevalence of teenage pregnancies in Hollywood backstories of female characters is only weird if you don't think it's normal for men to want to sleep with underage girls. There might be issues and laws and repercussions to this kind of thing in RL, meaning you might need to do things like count down to a teenage actress' 18th birthday before you can make your move, but movies are wish fulfillment and the men in charge can write and cast according to how they would like the world to be.

Besides, what's the alternative? Casting 40-year-olds as the female lead? Next to a 50-year-old male lead? No man would want to see that movie!!!

Love Actually, yeah she was cast too young. But I think in Pirates she was supposed to be late teens?
