I had no idea tree was 17 yo which makes the whole thing creepy af 😬 She really had me fooled with LIT though. There was a time where I thought she was a good actress lol
Is Tree a new nickname for Scarlett Johansson? Because if so I completely missed that and am deeply confused about how it came about but also I sort of love it?
People call her a tree because of her playing a Japanese character in Ghost in the Shell and when asked about it she gave some odd answer about how an actor could play a tree if they're talented enough or something.
She played a robot and the creator of manga approved of her when she was cast. The nonsense started when weirdo weebos who live in their mother’s basements started to complain on Twitter.
I've never seen Lost in Translation and know next to nothing about the plot aside from her and Bill Murray's characters both feeling lonely in Japan, latching onto each other, and developing a romantic bond, so I always assumed that her character was in fact a teenager and have been side-eyeing the love for the movie for ages.
So, good for them for her character not actually being underage, I guess. I still judge bc no way is this not part of male Hollywood liking their young women young and just skirting around troublesome accusations by casting a child and saying "but look, in the story she's of age!"
Lost in Translation used to be one of my favourite movies. I watched it again about a year ago and it was a cringefest. The inappropriate relationship, making fun of Japanese speech, and overall blasé, depressed attitudes were a turnoff.
Yeah I used to love it but then I was horrified rewatching it years later. They way Coppola made a mockery out of Japanese people and used them as set dressing was appalling.

JLaw's miscast as hell. Fuck O Russell.
