I’m confused, but I am still living in the world of words have meaning. But by definition facts are only facts if they are true. Lies and allegations are the opposite of that. Alternate facts don’t exist.

So did someone lie or someone tell a fact she doesn’t like?

Fwiw I’m not taking sides or anything, I’m legit confused by does she not like it cause they told the truth and one she didn’t wish to share or perhaps acknowledge, or because they lied? or because she thought it would be a wholly flattering documentary she had control over?

It’s a brain day so if I’m getting hung up on one spot as I said that’s why. I read the post but I’m not sure if it’s legit complaint being voiced or celebs don’t like being reminded of reality.

When she says she was lulled into a false sense of security, it sounds like she shared info that she didn't think would make it into the film--like she forgot she wasn't talking to a friend in confidence but was instead speaking on record to someone who wanted to create a profitable film.

But in that situation it makes Alanis seem strangely naive for someone who's been dealing with the press for decades.

It's still a terrible situation for her though.

In the full statement she talks about how she was in the middle of severe postpartum depression while filming this, so she would be more vulnerable and it sounds like they took advantage of her guard being down. I am hearing more about her realizing she could not give consent at 15 to a 30 something man more then about the JLP album, which was not about that. "Hands Clean" from "Under Rug Swept" deals with that.Plus she has press for that new fox reality show coming on next week, so she is probably extra on edge. She better be inducted in The Rock and Roll Hall of fame next year.

I’m guessing that part about consent is about the events leading up to the making of JLP and has little to do with URS.

I cancelled my HBO subscription after that Michael Jackson documentary was announced. They are not getting my money. It really feels they are ready to throw anyone under the bus just to get ratings, fame and money. I am surprised Oprah is not involved this time around!

I don't know the truth (you seem to know it though?), but once someone is dead and cannot defend themselves.. Why dig the dirt? That is something I don't get and never will. It was obviously for the money and 15 minutes of fame.

lol, yes why bring to light the fact that someone who is practically deified by his demented fanbase was actually a monstrous pedophile? why give victims the opportunity to tell their stories when they finally feel safe to do so, if it doesn't fit into said fanbase's logical timetable?

h'mmm. i wonder if it's the same issue as the woodstock documentary where they were talking out of both sides of their mouths: condemning the amount of exposed breasts and and assaults while...showing us exposed breasts and assaults.

with alanis, i could see them trying to push a ~post metoo~ narrative while also exploiting or pushing a narrative she wasn't comfortable with.
