BeKindRewind talks about the adaptive process of turning Breakfast at Tiffanys from Queer and Mildly Racist to Compulsory Het and WILDLY RACIST and how that affected both the casting process and how people think about the film now.

Ha, I literally just finished watching this.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone will ever take on a more authentic take of the source material or if the 1961 film is just too iconic.

the casting process alone would deserve a movie lol

I'd love a book!Breakfast at Tiffany's 10 episode series. Margaret Qualley would be a good Holly Golightly tbh.

make a film that is actually true to the book but change the name of the film and the names of the characters?

i remember watching this for the first time thinking it would be some amazing classic and was befuddled over how fucking awful it was. HOW is it a classic??? and don't say audrey, she's done a ton of other classic roles/movies

It was a huge letdown for me too, especially since I had already seen other Audrey Hepburn movies before this one.

I think it's a classic that has all the right (but somewhat superficial) aesthetics that appeals to a mass audience - Tiffany's, the fashion, the parties, the rain, the cat, the music, 1960s, New York

I totally agree with you. I feel like you watch Breakfast at Tiffany's more for the visuals than for the plot.

The older I get the sadder Breakfast at Tiffany's the movie makes me. Like I used to see the ending as a happily ever after but now I see it more as an interlude and they're both two very lost people who'll break up eventually.

Word. It's an ending that ages with the viewer.

I feel the exact same way about Pretty Woman. And Grease.

Grease! Odds on Danny dumping Sandy down the line in order to marry a Nice Wholesome Clean Girl like the Sandy he fell for in the first place? Because you know he's got madonna-whore complex stuff going on, 1950s probably Italian Catholic man that he probably is.

My dad hated Holly Golightly for how she treated the cat in the movie. I remember watching it with my parents and my dad saying "That cat deserves better than her. I hope that she doesn't end up with the cat at the end of this stupid movie."

Right?! First you literally threw Cat off the dresser when you were destroying your apartment (yes I understand why she was upset but leave Cat out of it) and THEN you just threw his/her ass out of the car and into the rain.

Cat's face at the end was like,"Oh now you care? Bitch."

She was really shitty to the poor cat. My dad was ready to transport to 1961 and save the cat from her. He used to not be a big cat person, but now he writes poems about his cats and calls himself The Cat Whisperer.
