OnlyOop: BBC investigation(s) likely catalyst for OnlyFans changes, expose moderation issues

earlier today we had a post about the drastic change in content parameters coming to OnlyFans (OF).

[tl;dr if you missed it]
once considered a major outlet for sex workers to share and be paid for their work and now a platform hosting A to D list celebs, the service announced that starting in October they would no longer host sexually explicit content (tho they would

Omg for some reason the thought of a straight moderator having to skip through multiple cum eating videos is making me laugh

"There is a discrimination between accounts," says Christof. "It shows money is the priority." The second moderator says that with violations of any kind, "You get a few warnings, you don't just get the one warning and then you're off." SHOCKING!!!$!$!!

"In 2019 there were around a dozen children known to be missing being linked with content on OnlyFans," says its vice president, Staca Shehan. "Last year the number of those cases nearly tripled."

reading those articles is upsetting, but the underage victim statements are just too much and too hard to read. it's all just so sad. and we thought we had it bad with girls gone wild...I know some of those women were also underage, but OF is just a free for all.

100%. And these companies dont care. None of this backtracking and "change of TOS" is for victims sake. Its for money and PR sake.

"SWERF activists run amok"

YAASSS liberal posturing, the highway of tears, violence against indigenous woman??? Who gives a fuck~! Sorry not sorry this cree man will not support an "industry" that is so brutal for native woman. It should not exist and I will not let the people who want its existence to continue to think they're anything BUT supporting the rape and murder of indigenous woman.

I remember a comment of here being like "Omg U LIterALLy want me dead swurf" when a feminist had the audacity to critique sex work. I will not support violence against woman and the white supremacy of sex trafficking I mean sex werk, and if that means you have to die, aight and yeah I do in fact hate you get another job.

A lot of the mainstream press is misreporting the reason behind the OnlyFans porn ban, linking it to an unrelated article about trying to get more funding.

The reason actually given: the MasterCard rule changes prompted by Exodus Cry's campaign against Pornhub. https://t.co/xZOxdBnLfu

Isn’t exodus cry some evangelical organization that secured the replacement of AIDS programs for sex workers for abstinence only programs or what that some shit that lodged itself in my brain from a fever dream?

gotta be honest, read two articles by this dude and don’t feel like they add much to the conversation. he does a great job laying out the long and damaging legacy of anti-porn / anti-sw movements and then it all gets muddled. a couple passing mentions of the content moderation issues that were present at pornhub and a lot of skirting that their - and OnlyFans’ - objectively broken systems that they failed to fix for YEARS are what left them especially vulnerable to be targeted by both fundie orgs and manipulative think pieces.

A company made to make money off of the content of sex workers was always going to prioritize money over safety and then do this when caught out. We've seen it before and we'll see it again.

It may be safer for some sex workers, but digital pimps are just a different type of sexual and financial exploitation. It may feel slightly different because there's a level of distance, but it isn't really. There's still so much danger.

I don't have the answers, I just know that it's all too unfair for the most marginalized, the most vulnerable, and I wish that people weren't in these positions to start with.
