I hated Father Gabriel and am shocked to see his ass is still around! Has he gotten any better? Also, fuck Negan. Idc if they followed the comics. I'll never forgive him for killing Glenn.

The problem is, the show cast fucking Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who I generally like in other roles, but the general public (and the show runners, apparently) can't separate Morgan's attractiveness and charisma irl from who Negan is on the show. So even though Negan is still a piece of shit who has never really expressed any remorse from what he did (the only vaguely redeeming thing he's done is rescue Judith during snowstorm), he's a "fan favorite" and the show runners basically make sure the show revolves around him (and Daryl). Which is ridiculous.
They really should have cast someone like Henry Rollins, considering 1) Kirkman wrote Negan in the comics based on Rollins' look and manner 2) Rollins actually auditioned for the part. And people would have maybe seen Negan for what he is-a monster-if the actor playing him wasn't a romantic hero in every other role he plays.
That’s an interesting tidbit about Henry Rollins being the basis for the character. I don’t know that he would have been any less of a fan fave than Morgan though, he’s pretty charismatic himself.
The Negan character is what finally made me stop watching. I couldn’t stand his blah blah blah monologues.

Oh he's charismatic for sure. And I have no doubt the neckbeard fan contingent would have worshipped him as Negan. But, based on what I've seen of Rollins in other stuff, even when he's playing charismatic (his role on Sons of Anarchy comes to mind), he would have been a much more clear villain in the role, unlike JDM, who does this whole darkly romantic anti-hero thing with the character, especially in later seasons when he's has this whole *big, sad eyes* thing he does whenever he shares screen time with Judith (and now Lydia too). It's like he doesn't quite know how to play a role without injecting an element of romantic hero into it.

Oh god, the monologuing. I hate the character. HATE him. (And I say this as a fan of JDM's work.) Even aside from beating Glenn (and Abraham) to death, I can't get over the fact
( ... )
true! i stopped watching when they did that shitty cliff hanger before finally killing him off. i would've stopped after hearing what they did to the carl actor even if i kept up with it tbh.

I legit thought it'd already ended. I can't believe it's still going.
