I don’t know that he would have been any less of a fan fave than Morgan though, he’s pretty charismatic himself.
Oh he's charismatic for sure. And I have no doubt the neckbeard fan contingent would have worshipped him as Negan. But, based on what I've seen of Rollins in other stuff, even when he's playing charismatic (his role on Sons of Anarchy comes to mind), he would have been a much more clear villain in the role, unlike JDM, who does this whole darkly romantic anti-hero thing with the character, especially in later seasons when he's has this whole *big, sad eyes* thing he does whenever he shares screen time with Judith (and now Lydia too). It's like he doesn't quite know how to play a role without injecting an element of romantic hero into it.
The Negan character is what finally made me stop watching. I couldn’t stand his blah blah blah monologues.
Oh god, the monologuing. I hate the character. HATE him. (And I say this as a fan of JDM's work.) Even aside from beating Glenn (and Abraham) to death, I can't get over the fact that he kept a harem of scared women as his "wives," which everyone who's a fan always seems to forget about. Ugh.
