I was just out in a tracksuit and no makeup and got cat called. Made me feel hella unsafe and also like I definitely won't be wearing my new bomb-ass summer dress tomorrow. Thanks, pal. Nice work.

And all these men saying they're "just being nice" by saying hello or "complimenting" women... Are you actually fooling yourselves with this shit? You actually believe that's what you're doing? For real?

i've started to see men speak up about cat calling. there was this standup comedian that kind of went viral and a lot of the guys i follow on instagram shared it so i hope the tides are starting to change. also a couple years ago i was walking alone and some guy catcalled me and another one told him not to do that.

and like these are small things in the face of a global issue, but i have to hold on to them or i'll lose my mind.

look at me not knowing if cat call or catcall is correct and using both to cover my bases

should have clarified it was a local comedian and the viral part was like, country wide at most lol it's in spanish, his name is sebastian rincon and the bit is called 'los piropos en la calle'

it took her so long to call out misogyny is because it's institutionalised to the point that you're often not even aware of it.

and also regarding this i remember hearing about a harrassment incident on the news and my mom turned to me and asked if i'd ever been harrassed and i said yes, and she asked if i handled it and i just. i said yes bc i didn't want to get into it, but in my mind i was just like 'nobody ever taught me how! i had to go through it a bunch of times before i learned how to speak up for myself!'

I also don't know how you'd "handle it". I feel like addressing it puts you at risk of being killed tbh.

this can be true but many of my experiences were in an environment where at most i would be dismissed as taking things too seriously and not being able to take a joke. i feel like at this point i've learned to read a situation so i feel comfortable knowing when to tell a man to shut the fuck up and he'll actually listen.

Or fired, or put in a position where the higher ups are trying to make you quit because you dared report a boss for months-long sexual harassment of yourself and your own employees. Especially when you come to the HR interview with names of witnesses, dates, and times. /personal experience

Please be kinder to young you. You didn't know better, unlike the asshole who thought telling a young girl that "they wanted to kidnap and fuck them" is an appropriate thing to do.

They always bring up that or the Vietnam draft and its like, men are the ones who made those rules! We had nothing to do with it!

it definitely feels like in the past few years there's been a VERY noticeable decreased interest in feminism/violence against women... like I barely meet women who care about feminist issues anymore, genuinely.
