Pretty much every actress I've met had major self-esteem problems, and it's really no wonder actresses/models have such insane body dismorphia. If I was constantly being offered "upgrades" for my looks I'd have a hard time looking in the mirror without finding thousands of flaws. And the irony is that the people telling those women they should change are, most of the time, fugly mediocre men.

Loving yourself truly is the most powerful statement a woman can make these days. I admire those who can & don't judge those who can't.

Yeah I remember Amanda Seyfried being told she should get botox when she was like 25 and it made me so mad. Aging is a cardinal sin in that industry.

i had a colleague telling me that people who criticize shows like ANTM for pushing an obsession with beauty/unattainable standards on ppl are just ugly hags themselves, bc "let's be honest, if we could get all that affirmation everyday, we'd do it in a heartbeat." tell that to all the ppl in that industry whose self image and relationship w their body is completely fucked... (i'm sure there's models who don't suffer from that, but it's not a healthy industry for many.)

God forbid actors and their characters look like human beings.

I really appreciated that the people on this show looked like everyday people, tbh.

I haven't watched this, but people on TV now all look so "perfect" in a way that they didn't like 15+ years ago. People have always gotten dolled up for TV, but at least it used to seem approachable. Now everything is 10 steps beyond artificial.

Yeah, even in the 90s, there seemed to be a lot more diversity in terms of types of attractiveness that actors had. Even the Friends actors were more "normal" looking than sitcom actors today.

She’s been dealing with it since she started out because she was never Hollywood thin. I’m glad she’s never given in.

her interview on oprah about her self-image at the oscars *(for titanic) is an interesting watch, she talks about how the media talked about her weight because she didn't look like all the other actresses at the time and that she was in one of the biggest films of all time and she wanted to be herself - it's on youtube but TW j*hnny depp does pop up at the side every now and again
