i work for the bbc (not in drama) and i can confirm that absolutely fucking nothing gets done when you complain about toxic male behaviour. i was invited to 'sit down and have a chat with him and sort it out yourselves'.

I’m sorry, that’s awful. I had a very similar thing happen where myself and a friend were told to tell the harasser he was being inappropriate and it’s terrible how little support women get.

It's absolutely the way to sweep it under the rug. They can tell HR they did something without having a formal report on the books.

this whole thing has me wondering what actors on set knew as well. christopher eccleston had issues with barrowman because of his behavior, so i feel like he would have said something about clarke as well if he saw something, but idk about billie piper or david tennant. not that the bbc would have done anything, as we saw with how they let barrowman just do his thing forever, but it would be nice to know that someone on this set cared.

Eccleston said he left because of behind-the-scenes behavior, but I think recently he clarified that it was an abusive director who was cruel to crew members. I'd like to believe he spoke up about Clarke and Barrowman if he saw it, but I'm trying not to hold my breath about an older white man.

Barrowman's whole energy has always made me feel uncomfortable. His desperate need to be the center of attention makes a lot of these anecdotes make sense. Like why would I want to look at your dick, and are you five years old?

So for my birthday my brother gave me a pre-recorded message from Barrowman because I used to go to a theater camp run by him as a teen and it took all my acting skills to appear grateful and not "If this were ANY OTHER BIRTHDAY I would be flattered"
