This is a prime example of collective poor decision making. In light of the recent news, this looks even worse.

The genuine hope is that one day, we will all look back on this and be amazed because we as a society have learned to do better.

Well, also: when it's clear no people of color or people who understand issues around DEI aren't involved.

even for some people of color, it is not easy to delineate valid criticism of the band without letting it spiral to racism.

not everyone is going to like them. it doesn't help that the hype and fanbase can make them polarizing. frequently that distaste leads people to be permissive of "edgy, satirical" work like this bullshit.

also, people of color don't necessarily look out for each other.

Like for all we know they're apologizing for drawing Jin with striped hair and fans were upset because we wanted it polka-dotted. It's so non-specific and it doesn't acknowledge even a baseline-level understanding of the harmful attitudes against Asians which this contributes to and perpetuates.
