it's been frustrating to see a bunch of the free britney accounts taking to positive attention from the documentary and using it to attract followers under the guise of "educating" people. I've seen so many ~viral~ tweets from the same few accounts that are just footage of people saying cruel shit about Britney 13 years ago... like why is that what we're digging up? Trying to get celebrities in trouble for being 'mean' to Britney when she was vulnerable is fine, but what's the end goal here? Diane Sawyer's head on a stake isn't gonna free Britney, neither is reviving a clip of Sarah Silverman being an asshole to Britney at the VMAs in 2007.

The second photo isn't even Britney, but when pointed out the tweet remains, probably because it got lots of RTs. Some of these accounts value attention over telling the absolute truth.

I think its a lot of Gen X just learning the specifics about her story. Most of them wouldn't have been old enough to remember how we used to treat celebrities, so learning all this stuff would be jarring.

I really think that has to be it. A lot of people are like "how did we let this happen to Britney" with the photos of the Paparazzi, but I don't think they realize that if Britney's papz were at a 10, every other A-list star was at an 8. And the reason that they were at a 10 was because she was giving them material twice a day. She was everywhere, probably because of mania, but nobody knew that back then.

There was also a sentiment back then of “oh hey let’s see what wacky stuff she does next, get your popcorn kids” by entertainment shows and tabloids. It was spun more of an entertainment story, than a story of a woman who needed help. I admit to being one of those popcorn watchers, then when the South Park episode about her came out, it really snapped me out of that thinking and how horrible I was for forgetting that she is a person and not a character in some weird Celeb show.

One thing that I felt the documentary failed to mention was her record label's role in all of this. In 2007 especially. She was not well, clearly. The fact that they expected an album promo campaign out of her is nuts. They're the ones who booked her on the VMAs, after okaying the release of Gimme More. She didn't rehearse, but they threw her on stage anyways. Her management had to quit following the VMAs because they couldn't get in touch with her. Her damn kids get taken away / she gets booked for her hit and run, and the label's concern is that the album leaked early. One look at the Gimme More video and it's clear it should have been left on the cutting room floor. Still, they insisted she release an album

Hmmm I'm not sure about that because we know that Britney has always loved working and making music. She decided to go on a mini tour just a couple of months after the headshave and rehab just because she missed performing. I'm sure working towards an album was a welcome distraction from everything else - up until a point. And we know from JIVE's then CEO who testified at the last Sam Lufti lawsuit that although Britney didn't have a team around her, she spoken to him directly about album matters such as the tracklist, cover etc. So from all accounts she was quite involved in putting the album together.

Now the VMAs remains a sketchy situation. If I remember correctly the idea to perform there came from her then entertainment lawyer and the label wasn't particularly fond of it. They demanded a full run-through before the VMAs with Britney present and Brit performed the routine well. It was only when she got to Vegas that the whole thing fell apart.

Kelly Clarkson's manager, Jeff Kwatinetz, got dumped after My December, and jumped right in with working with Britney. He was only around for a couple months, Summer 2007. I'm pretty sure he was the one who set up the VMA performance, but don't quote me

Yeah they didn’t include a lot of vital details which lead to her downward spiral. I feel the same way re the 2007 VMAs.

They also didn’t discuss how Paris Hilton badly influenced Britney to party hard in 2006 and this was actually the reason why Britney was targeted by the papz even more. Instead, they showed Paris in a positive light towards the end of the doc - she gave a message for Britney sending her love and regards. Fuck Paris.
