Helena Bonham Carter stars in an ad for Bumble UK

In addition to wanting you to buy a vibrator, Helena Bonham Carter wants you to join the dating app Bumble! Dating is hard enough as it is and during a pandemic, it's harder. Placate your nosy family members who ask you why you're still single during the holidays by joining a dating app I guess?

No to dating apps, no to love.

The ad is cute enough though, I suppose.

ive never been on a dating app because i live in a town... just big enough to run into one of my coworkers or one of their colleagues i also know so NO.
I miss living in a bigger city i think it'd be more fun

I gave dating apps my best shot last year around this time, and it was one of the most demoralizing and depressing experiences of my life! Never again lmao

It feels super awkward. I find it so hard to try to connect w ppl on an app if the elephant in the room from the word go is 'will we or won't we (be romantically compatible/date/fuck/?), there's no breathing room for friendship first.

Yes, it's so uncomfortable and unnatural! Every conversation had all the stress of a job interview. I especially hated when guys would immediately ask if I wanted to go out - I wouldn't just agree to go out with a random stranger who approached me in public and asked me that within a minute of meeting, so why would I agree to it on an app where I can barely even tell what this guy really looks like?

Srsly! I mean I get wanting to meet bc you might have a completely different chemistry in person but I grew up in the generation that was told to not give out RL infos to internet strangers and a lot of it has stuck, just meeting some rando is still an effort to me. I don't mind if it's someone I've been talking to longer like my online buddies but it it's abt dating from the get go... I'm v distrustful.

I don't rly get flirted with by ppl and after some lukewarm OKCupid dates I thought I'd give it another go this year, feeling better after 2 years of therapy. Well. That didn't work out for obvs reasons lol. Thx 2020
