From albums years and years in the making to those recorded during quarantine-induced bursts of creativity https://t.co/FRHk6LrDnn - Pitchfork (@pitchfork) December 8, 2020
I am probably not the person to ask because I have been nothing but vocal in my love of their newest album but . . . YES to the HAIM question. Women In Music Pt. III is fantastic, and their first album, Days Are Gone, remains super solid as well (their second album is good too, don't get me wrong, but I remain obsessed with the other two).
I have a long list of albums I loved this year but I think my top 10 are:
1. Fetch the Bolt Cutters - Fiona Apple 2. SAWAYAMA - Rina Sawayama 3. Ungodly Hour - Chloe x Halle 4. What's Your Pleasure - Jessie Ware 5. Things I Never Said - Oceanator 6. Shamir - Shamir 7. The Archer - Alexandra Savior 8. Lianne La Havas - Lianne La Havas 9. Songs for Our Daughter - Laura Marling 10. Roisin Machine - Roisin Murphy
I still have some albums released this year that I need to check out so this ranking will probably change.
there was so much great music released this year, nailing down my top five or even top 10 has been super hard....big yes to Fiona Apple, Laura Marling, Phoebe Bridgers...i also have to plug Nadine Shah, her voice is so unique and i love her lyrics. also The Big Moon, Moses Sumney, DMAs, Dream Wife, Doves, Travis....yeah this is pretty much impossible lmao
ooh and also Nile Marr (son of Johnny) who released an album just a couple of weeks ago but that might even sneak into my top five, pretty much every track is a total jam
I'm surprised that Nadine Shah isn't getting more attention on end of year lists (as well as Laura Marling and SAULT - I feel like those two are generally either placing high or left off entirely). I'll have to check out some of those! The Big Moon literally just showed up in my Discover Weekly playlist last week and I really liked the song.
tbh i wonder if it isn't because she's been so outspoken about the industry and especially how little money artists make from streaming...she tweeted after she got shut out of the Mercury Prize nominations, clearly she thought something was up. obviously she's not been the only one to speak, but she is a woman of color so there's also that.
and yes The Big Moon! one of my faves of the year, for sure...hope you enjoy it :D

Oooh, thanks for the reminder on Tennis! I keep meaning to listen to their album in full and keep forgetting.

I really like "no body no crime" but never listened to haim before. Should I listen to their new album?
