it may be surprising to you to learn that i was in an emotionally and physically abusive relationship. it was hard for me to process too, during and after i never thought something like this would happen to me.

I am still so mad at his apology that doesn't name her directly. Trash

I also feel like he would use the chance to be manipulative in some way as well.

i respect & appreciate this so much. that second tweet is especially so important - so many people can’t seem to understand why victims don’t “just leave” like it’s that easy.

it shatters me to think about how many people are likely suffering in lockdown, so i appreciated her talking about that too.

and FUCK shia forever. i never wanna see his ugly face again

ia so much. you see it normalized even on places that generally support women in abusive situations, like ontd. selena gomez and justin bieber posts about them breaking up would be filled with comments saying "ok she's just gonna go back to him"

society really seems to look down on people, esp women, who are stuck in toxic and abusive situations. like we're so fucking stupid we can't see for ourselves that the door is right there. yeah, we know. there's much more to leaving than an exit :/

i can see how you must've felt in that position, and i get it. it can be frustrating and these situations are not easy to navigate and you can only do your best with the best of intentions sometimes. i hope your friend is no longer with his abuser now <3

i really appreciated this tweet about everything

FKA twigs could have walked silently into the night and let this man live because society says sympathize with this broken man, but she didn’t and that’s not even courage or bravery that shit is salvation she’s not taking on his trauma, she’s healing the injury to her psyche.

Her replies (as of yesterday) were so surprisingly non-terrible. I was worried that some stans of his would suddenly materialize and start giving her shit, but no, it was almost entirely women supporting her. ❤ Let's keep that up, humanity!

A lot of people still think it is as easy as "well just leave!" so this is really important.
I've been thinking a lot about domestic violence lately, probably because of what she's saying in her fourth tweet, and truly realizing how fucking useless the cops were all those years me and my mom needed help.
This was more than 15 years ago and I wish I could say I believe things are different now but I don't.

The cops really are useless. Most of the time they think it's your fault and you can pick up on those vibes which definitely makes you less motivated to speak out. They also have zero useful advice or resources to give you. They are a pathetic institution tbqh and grossly underqualified to handle most situations

Yep. They were called multiple times and all they did was knock on our door and being like "everything is fine, right? ok bye!".
I also remember the "are you sure you want to press charges?" sounding very "nah don't do it" which is great when you're scared and unsure.

Pathetic. I remember the officer telling us that he can't help unless we want to press charges... which we knew was bullshit because the man can still attack you even if you have a restraining order. So I asked him what would happen if he came after us and followed through on his threat and came to our door and tried to break in to attack our family.

The officer said, "Well, that would be property damage so he'd definitely get arrested." I was like oh... property damage... that's what's important here?! Not damage to actual people?!
