My family in Chicago made me try so much deep dish when I lived there, and none of it was worth it 😬. So it’s probably the whole concept that doesn’t work for me.
I will never have a desire to eat deep pan pizza. I could just have mozzarella sticks and a side of marinara instead so I don't make a fucking mess and the dough isn't soggy
Yeah, they could have gone with the fun quipping "we challenge you to try it!" but people would much rather share the story if someone is playing the victim
it's weird to me. the tomato sauce is the top layer and there's usually a lot of it. it doesn't hold its structure like a typical slice of pizza. any chicago-style deep dish i've had is impossible to eat without a fork and knife. i wouldn't say it's terrible, but i was born on long island, so ny-style pizza is what i was raised on and is my pref.
In Brazil a lot of people eat regular pizza using a knife and fork (myself included), my american friend was so weirded out by that lol That and the fact we have pizza with pieces of boiled eggs.
i actually also eat my pizza with a fork and knife because i don't like to get my fingers dirty when eating. i also don't like bone-in wings or ribs for this reason. but it's impossible to eat chicago-style deep dish without a fork and knife like you can with other pizza. it's like a deep dish savory pie. the filling will run all over.
i'm going to be in chicago this weekend and part of my plan was to have deep dish so i think i might go there. i've never had deep dish, i like that it looks like a cake.
