it's weird to me. the tomato sauce is the top layer and there's usually a lot of it. it doesn't hold its structure like a typical slice of pizza. any chicago-style deep dish i've had is impossible to eat without a fork and knife. i wouldn't say it's terrible, but i was born on long island, so ny-style pizza is what i was raised on and is my pref.
In Brazil a lot of people eat regular pizza using a knife and fork (myself included), my american friend was so weirded out by that lol That and the fact we have pizza with pieces of boiled eggs.
i actually also eat my pizza with a fork and knife because i don't like to get my fingers dirty when eating. i also don't like bone-in wings or ribs for this reason. but it's impossible to eat chicago-style deep dish without a fork and knife like you can with other pizza. it's like a deep dish savory pie. the filling will run all over.
the real appeal of deep dish is that it stays hot for a very long time, so it's great for delivery/parties as long as you're ok with the fork and knife aspect and don't try to compare it too much to regular pizza (which yes, is generally superior)
I have not. There’s definitely no UNO locations near my hometown and I’ve never gone to one here in LA. I’ve definitely seen the frozen brand in the freezer section before but never bought it.
I just looked it up and apparently I lied. I’ve been to an UNO’s because I’ve been to Pizzeria Due in Chicago. I had no idea it was a franchise and that Due was part of it.
I don't even remember the last time I had it but there's one like 15 minutes from me and I remember it was Chicago style lol. I've never personally been to Chicago tho!
Pizz'a Chicago is in Campbell, downtown San Jose, and Palo Alto
I wonder if the secret pizza on the Vegas Strip is still in operation; they also made a good slice of deep dish (crustless, at Vegas prices but quality and convenient)
I want to say I’d like it. I mean it is pizza after all right? Iono.
