Aug 12, 2020 23:05

It's been 84 years since I was a college radio DJ, but I'm here to share some faves I would have learnEd about thru record stores, Other Music's newsletter (RIP), and CMJ Music Marathon in NYC (also RIP, it was supposed to relaunch this year but Miss Rona had something to say about that).

Lol it's rly not a big deal

I requested an obscure dumb song and the programming director asked me to visit the studio. I was on the campus shuttle on my way to my car when it happened, so I just turned back around

I had to fill out a set list to "audition" and then I got my own show after a semester where I got to play whatever tf I wanted and my own CDs

The fun part is getting to go to CMJ in New York and see a hundred bands play. I saw vampire weekend do an in store at other music!! It's not on YouTube, but there's a clip of it in the other music doc my friends puloma and rob made

The cooler thing I did was get invited to do an hour of music at WFMU, and my set list was piped in to the convention center during the annual record fair

I will brag about that

No but I got a free Apple Music account and have been making playlists on that

I had a hard time figuring out how to switch tracks on Spotify around bc I like to edit for flow

I thought about duplicating my quarentunes playlist on Spotify tho but it's a lot of songs lol

Maybe I'll do it piecemeal

Are any of yall stuck in 90s pop and have trouble getting into more contemporary music.

I get into oldies from the 50s-mid 2000s, but so much of the current stuff I just don't feel inspired to get into. :/

yeah, now that i think abt it, I can get into all genres I normally like except pop.

but wtf even is 'pop' ya know?

Noone has the vocals to make up for their mediocre stage performance....

maybe im waiting on the next gaga, britney, mariah, destinys child, etc.

but idk.
