It's been 84 years since I was a college radio DJ, but I'm here to share some faves I would have learnEd about thru record stores, Other Music's newsletter (RIP), and CMJ Music Marathon in NYC (also RIP, it was supposed to relaunch this year but Miss Rona had something to say about that).

I always wanted to be a dj growing up lol not the segments/ interviews stuff but just playing song after song hopefully improving people’s days, making them ~feel stuff etc lol. Even now I’d take like a graveyard shift job as a dj or something that seems like such a cool job

You could get in intership maybe. Or they do have non profit community radios you could volunteer at.

I’ve been in such an oldies rut, anything release one 2019-2020 besides a select few songs all sound like TikTok music or SoundCloud shit and I feel so freaking old and out of touch

All of this sounds like music I'd hear at a hipster clothing store (not that I dislike it or anything).

ah i was college radio dj too. my schtick was "world music" - i'd feature music from artists of a certain country each week. my research was kinda wack though cuz some acts i featured from one country, i learned years later were from somewhere else lol. whatever, i just played music from non-american artists.

i kinda like the instrumental for the rain cover, but once he started singing... nah not for me lol. have not been listening to too much new stuff. been consuming a lot of 90s/early 00s rnb.

It reminds me of the fed up/fed ex parody baby doll shirt I got at the mall when I was 15

I think I had a pink sweet n low one but I can't remember what the parody was. Maybe it was sour and high idk
