I saw the 1990 version in theaters as a kid and I loved Anjelica Huston as the Grand High Witch, so I really hope Anne made the role her own.

Anjelica was so striking in it, I just watched it for the first time last week and I could not stop looking at her

There were times I was just rooting for her like "oh well, clearly the superior being here, so be it".

I also just watched it for the first time last week! I don't know how I missed it b/c I was obsessed with Roald Dahl books as a kid.

But yes, Anjelica is truly captivating.

Anne looks nicely evil! I had doubts she would be a good grand high witch but she’s looking the part here

I was hoping this would be a close adaptation to the book but idk who the fuck Stanley Tucci would be playing then because the only two main characters that are male are the unnamed child protagonist and William, his mouse.

Also side note I just looked it up and Octavia plays the GRANDMOTHER??? I assumed she was playing a witch wtf. The fact that the grandma is in her late 80’s and has a short remaining life expectancy is hugely relevant to the story.

the only person i can think of is the hotel owner/mr stringer aka rowan atkinson's role in the movie

Omg I completely forgot about Mr Stringer. That’s definitely who he’s playing.

I read the book for the first time like a year ago and the ending fucking sux, it's so morbid. Yay, mouse boy and grandma can die together in a few years, wtf??

omg i love the ending lmaooo.
I always thought it was really beautiful and poignant since all they had was one another and this way they could be happy together.

also i like that it's a bittersweet ending.

lol right? At least that ending implies they spent their last years happy and together, instead of the implication that he'd eventually have to face this horrid world alone once grandma dies.

Lol I remember the ending really shook me up as a little kid when you realise that he just remained as a mouse, that was a bit of a strange one. I assume they’ll change it for the movie?
