I don't know what it is but I love Klaus and Kai's messiness. And yet hate Damon lmao. I love Georgina Sparks too oop.

Same, tbh, but imo the difference between Damon and Klaus/Kai is that Damon was, in reality, a villain/horrible person who routinely did terrible things and never learned but was framed as a romantic hero because Julie Plec's writing always couched his actions as forgivable if not outright justifiable because of *true! love!*, whereas Klaus was presented as a true (if sometimes sympathetic/romanticized) villain, and Kai was just a bad guy outright, who happens to be appealing to watch because he's funny.
That show went off the rails after Kevin Williamson left as show runner at the end of Season 2 and Julie Plec took over, and it enrages me every time I think about how her hack writing ruined the show.

Now that I think about it, everyone pretty much adored season 2 of Vampire Diaries and then the show just skyrockets down in quality after that. Now I know why.

Haha, that's so fucking valid. Ian's pompous, eyebrow acting, look-at-me-I'm-an-artiste! ass was ridiculous.
Also, I think Chris did actually get to do vulnerable!Kai for a episode or two, when he had absorbed his younger brother (who was actually kind/brave) and was experiencing personality bleed and didn't know how to handle the feelings. It didn't last very long, but he was more sympathetic and endearing in that brief time than Ian was during the span of the whole show lol. Ugh.
