Heather Morris offers to help with search for Naya Rivera

My name is Heather Morris, I'm Nayas close friend and co-worker, and I'm trying to conduct an on foot search and rescue mission along with a small group of friends at Lake Piru. I understand your team is doing EVERYTHING in their power, but we are feeling helpless, powerless and

it's foolish of me I'm sure but I can't help hoping that somehow, someway they find her alive. Maybe it's just the thought of her son losing her at this age and tihs way having me wanting this IDK

It’s not foolish to hope for a miracle. I really, really hope she’s somehow found alive too.

It's not foolish by any means, but it does become a problem when people confuse a genuine hope with expectation. I hate to bring up Twitter, but I have seen a lot of that going on over there.

It's an important distinction to make

ITA, especially with a lot of the unrealistic conspiracies I see going around on there.

If by some miracle, she is alive and taking shelter somewhere on land, where would she be? They have already searched all shorelines nearby.

The teenage detectives on Twitter have noticed there’s a cabin in the mountains nearby (I say nearby but who knows the actual distance) and will not stop tweeting the Ventura sheriff to search there.

I believe they said they were focusing on the lake because she wasn’t found on land, but if Heather wants to help, a volunteer search on land seems like the only thing she can do.

every time I attempt to on twitter... I instantly give up. people are bat shit and unfortunately now that tumblr is dead, twitter is basically tumblr on steroids with obsessive crazed fans who spend all day digging up conspiracy theories.

I have a weird feeling that if shes found itll be her fam, friends or fans that do it. I've seen too many cases where the police search doesnt turn up anything but as soon as the family is allowed to join, they're found.

Is there a conversation to be had around defunding the police and expecting these small town sheriff's and cops to be conducting land and water searches when it isnt necessarily they're expertise?

Some would say this is their expertise. I would argue that our expectations around cops need to be dismantled, and resources allocated to create efficiencies so that we dont have people genuinely believing they are more capable of finding her than the ppl in charge.

I was watching the new Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix last week and that's what happened in the case of Alonzo Brooks. The police looked and couldn't find him, then as soon as they allowed the family/friends to conduct their own search it took them about half an hour to locate his body.

lonzo definitely was not on the property when police “searched”, unfortunately.

I just watched that ep of UM last night. I also think about this story in TO and my heart hurts just thinking about her mom finding her. Toronto police were criticized hardcore for how they handled this and an investigation was launched into how they handle missing persons.

Its negligence. Its white men doing their mediocre best and calling it policing.

I dont have alot of faith in cops anymore. None of us should. Especially when it comes to Naya as a WOC.

Performative. She could have done this entirely in private. And what does she think she’s gonna do, learn how to be a professional diver in ten seconds and join the crew?

It’s possible that she reached out and didn’t get a response, so she went to twitter to get their attention.

Yeah. She tweeted she left a message so she’s probably using her platform to try to get a response.

Heather :( I totally empathize with how powerless she must feel and at least wants to try to find her while everyone is saying her friend is probably dead. I cannot imagine.
