i watched that eurovision movie and... ngl... i kind of loved it
it was everything i expected but better and i've been blasting "Husavik" and crying. will rewatch

otherwise i haven't been watching all that much new stuff :/ i watched a shitty chilean movie last night, started a mexican one but it turned out to be a psychological horror thing and i was not in the mood. i just want something lighthearted

Husavik is so good I was not expecting the music in the movie to be good

That song remind me of never enough from the greatest showman

I’m sure the last note on Husavik has to be digitally enhanced but I’ve watched that part like ten+ times lol

The cast of "The Outpost" is all actors who never quite made it.

I saw Matthias & Maxime today and it definitely felt like a return to form for Xavier Dolan even though his acting was questionable at times. It also had a truly random Eurovision needle drop.

Speaking of Eurovision I saw the Eurovision movie and I didn't hate it. I also saw Athlete A and Feel the Beat on Netflix, as well as An American In Paris and Frida.

I still miss live theatre so I watched both versions of The Sound of Music Live, Met Opera's Magic Flute and La Fille du Régiment, and National Theatre's A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

I've watched a few old-but-new-to-me movies recently:

The Watermelon Woman: Loved seeing a movie with a strong, underrepresented POV, and loved that the film was set in Philly. It's a little rough around the edges, but hey, it was made in the 90's for $300k! Wild. A former ONTDer brought this movie up in a post a couple of years ago, and her comment prompted me to realize that the director was actually a professor while I was in film school who did something kind that I have not forgotten. <3 Anyway, so glad she's still working and that this film is being seen more widely - it's streaming on Prime and was just on TCM.

Malcolm X: A little long, but Denzel was incredible and I learned some things I didn't know. Loved the costumes, the dancing, and the casting.

Orlando: I recorded this bc it was on TCM after The Watermelon Woman and I knew it was supposed to be the inspiration for this year's Met Gala, and holy shit, I loooooved it. It's like no other movie I've seen before - dreamlike, but structured enough to follow, and stylish ( ... )

YES @ The Watermelon Woman and Orlando, easily two of my favourites. I'm glad you liked them both

I got 2 episodes into Watchmen yesterday and it's amazing so far. Also, looking forward to Hamilton this weekend since I'm just going to be sitting at home lol

I loved Doctor Sleep, too! Might have to do a double feature with The Shining sometime soon - I was never a huge fan of the movie version, but I loved all the callbacks in Doctor Sleep.

Doctor Sleep was so much better than I expected! Didn't think I would [Spoiler (click to open)]ever be scared for the villain because the protagonist was genuinely terrifying but that scene where Rebecca Ferguson's hand was stuck in the drawer was SO GOOD
