I watched this and it just added another thing I couldn't deal with if I lived in the US, I don't think I could deal with calculating my own tax.

there's no free government site for filing your taxes in the US?

Nope because companies like TurboTax use Americans' perpetual hatred of the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) to control things like that.

Hi, yes-sometimes, depending on your age, income status, and if you may be ESL. VITA is a network that does it, and I know in Minnesota the Department of Revenue website links to free filing

There are free sites, but they aren't government run.

The worst taxes are when you freelance in the US. I took two financial workshops to try to figure it out and I was still confused. I did my own taxes that year and I still feel like any day now the IRS is going to send me a letter to audit my ass.

I have yet to do mine this year 😬. I wanted to try doing them on my own this year, someone told me credit karma was a good place to do them.

I'm shocked by this lmao

Here you can only file your taxes through a government website.

It takes like 5-10 minutes max, most of the information is already there you just need to confirm it.

I think it's like this in all of EU if you have a simple 9-5 job and aren't freelance, sailor or other special case. I only spend an extra minute to upload any medical receipts or money transfers to charities and the IRS pre-fills the rest.
