OP Note: I'm extremely mad at my undergrad alma mater's treatment of grad students.

I graduated with my masters literally a day after all the covid-19 stuff truly got crazy in the US. I have a lot of mixed feelings about it, but it is currently incredibly hard to find a job now and it's hard not to feel useless.

I want to get my MA but the closest grad school is a 40+ min drive in awful traffic and endless construction. Thought about revising my plan for law school but the school closest to me doesn’t have a concentration in the law I want to practice. I’m doing okay right now but don’t see a way to make more at my current company unless I get a PMP cert.

I couldn’t agree with 1a more. We really need to stop shaming students for going to school for something they care about. I purely went to college for economic gains but I’m still jealous of people who studied something they were passionate about.

I got a Masters in Counseling Psychology and I think that's it for me. I don't want to do another 5 years for a PhD.

I did my BA/MA concurrently (finished MA 1 year after BA) and job-hunting was such a demoralizing experience because most places just didn't care about any of that extra effort. I think the MA combined with the school name put some employers off offering entry-level jobs since they didn't think I would be taking it seriously/wouldn't be staying long-term. I'm fortunate not to have any student loans due to grants/fellowships/scholarships, so at least it wasn't a big financial strain in my case, but I can't imagine pursuing further academia unless I had a really strong interest in a narrow path of research (which I don't). I feel like I skated by on a half-hearted thesis just to complete my research in the optimal time frame to avoid paying out of pocket for my studies.
