As someone with two undergraduate degrees, I really wish I went into something stable like nursing or just a regulated healthcare professional route. Sigh. I love my job and don’t “regret” it but I regret the lack of stability.

I am very privileged that while I'm in massive debt from my undergrad degree (I will never recommend going out of state, state schools are so much cheaper for residents), my job is paying for me to go to grad school. I just don't seen any other way to advance as a black woman without a graduate degree, unfortunately.

What’s the degree you’re pursuing?

I have undergrad and masters degrees in journalism, so relatively worthless. But I’ve pivoted to working in clinical research and I think having a masters helps me since my degrees aren’t in STEM like my coworkers (the fact that I don’t have a STEM degree *has* kept me from some jobs I could absolutely do with my experience though).

A Master's in my field would be 90% theoretical.

Network administration, maybe sorta Cybersecurity.

There are Phd/Master's level Certifications (CASP, CISP for sure) that people value more. Some get the master's just because they're at that level and a company is paying for it.

i'd be crying if I was paying the college prices in the US rn for all this online learning, jesus. i'm already stressed as hell with one year to go at my community college basically & I still haven't finished my spring term yet - getting that done in person in July with some serious planning!

next semester is going to be awful. so much remote learning. I have one year to go but my last term is supposed to be a clinical placement. I already had my first placement cancelled this summer bc of COVID-19. my field is in healthcare so it could be stable, but bc it isn't something completely urgent like nursing, I'm still worried about how difficult it will be to find a job/stability.
