I have never watched this but have been thinking about starting it lately. Is it worth it? I normally hate starting a show that has a lot of seasons already

watch seasons 1-4, those are great, and then stop

i gave up this show like two seasons ago and it was the right choice

I started watching a couple of weeks ago and it’s been a fun rollercoaster ride, although I’m contemplating stopping now that I’m at S5. It was great doing a complete 180 about one specific character.

I haven’t watched the last season or two. How is Lagertha doing? And Bjorn? Only two I cared about tbh.

Very spoilery obvs, and forgive me if I repeat anything you already saw:

[Spoiler (click to open)]Lagertha came back to Kattegat and overthrew the bitch who stole her husband (all of the yay from me for that). Eventually she made way for the sons to take over. (This does not go well, Ivar is out of his tiny mind as a king and eventually Bjorn has to come back and usurp him, but see Bjorn’s story below). In the final season she’s aged a lot, has grown very weary, and retires to go build her own farm. A lot of retired Shield Maidens and warriors join her in building the settlement. It gets attacked by a bunch of men Bjorn exiled and Lagertha has to rally them all. Unfortunately Bjorn’s kids were with her at the time and one of them is killed. She kills their leader but he badly wounds her in the attempt, and she goes back to Kattegat for help. She arrives in the dead of night, nobody around, and Hvitsek is drunk out of his mind and thinks she’s Ivar so he kills her, fulfilling the prophecy that she’d be slain by a son of Ragnar. At that point though she was ... )

This season was kind of a mess... but there were ideas at least? Also, I really like that they walked back Ivar's character, he was just way too cartoonishly evil.

I’m on episode 4 of S5 right now and Ivar is beginning to get on my nerves. SO. MUCH. TALKING and his delusions of grandeur are so fucking annoying. Like bro, you can’t fucking walk, calm your ass down.
I can’t take his storyline seriously after one of the battles of York where all the soldiers stopped and didn’t attack him, he’s an easy as fuck target! Slice his head off goddamnit.

I felt like it went off the rails after Ragnar died anyway. Mostly because Ivar was what would happen if a cartoon decided to do a send up of a cartoon villain.

That said, always here for Lagertha
