Very spoilery obvs, and forgive me if I repeat anything you already saw:
[Spoiler (click to open)]Lagertha came back to Kattegat and overthrew the bitch who stole her husband (all of the yay from me for that). Eventually she made way for the sons to take over. (This does not go well, Ivar is out of his tiny mind as a king and eventually Bjorn has to come back and usurp him, but see Bjorn’s story below). In the final season she’s aged a lot, has grown very weary, and retires to go build her own farm. A lot of retired Shield Maidens and warriors join her in building the settlement. It gets attacked by a bunch of men Bjorn exiled and Lagertha has to rally them all. Unfortunately Bjorn’s kids were with her at the time and one of them is killed. She kills their leader but he badly wounds her in the attempt, and she goes back to Kattegat for help. She arrives in the dead of night, nobody around, and Hvitsek is drunk out of his mind and thinks she’s Ivar so he kills her, fulfilling the prophecy that she’d be slain by a son of Ragnar. At that point though she was kind of glad to go and she isn’t angry with him. The funeral sequence is worth watching because it’s gorgeous
Bjorn went off exploring new worlds, got into a bunch of battles but was pretty victorious most of the time, and wound up marrying a shield maiden called Gunnhilde who his rival/raiding partner King Harold also wanted. (He and Torvi had already split up and she’s now with Ubbe). They went back to avenge Ragnar’s death and won. He comes back to Kattegat to overthrow Ivar, wins and becomes King. In the final season he gets called away to defend Harald, Is in two minds about whether it’s wise to given how new his rule is, but he goes. He gets caught up in a political plot to elect one ruler as King of Norway and unite the country. The guy who’s masterminding it wants Bjorn, Bjorn is the front runner, but then Harald pretends to be supporting him while actually mustering votes for himself and manages to win. But then Bjorn won’t bend the knee and has to escape. He gets back to Kattegat in the middle of Lagertha’s funeral. He initially sentenced Hvitsek to be burned, but he sees midway through that he looks happy to be dying and stops it so he can be exiled and stay miserable.
Ivar is in Russia making plots with some evil bastard to invade, so I guess Bjorn’s next issue is going to be fending off him and Harald at the same time[Spoiler (click to open)]
