January 29, 2020 The filterless Kristen Bell appeared on the Life Is Short with Justin Long podcast to promote The Good Place and got into talking about her annoying husband Dax Shepherd. She says she and Dax have decided to always talk about the total uncensored truth about their relationship since "we decided we were never going to not be asked about our relationship,"
She brought up a recent fight they had which revolved around a list of chores she had left for him before leaving for work.
"I left a note and I was like, ‘Hey dad! Would you mind taking the two towels in the dryer and folding them’ and then like one other thing. I thought, ‘That’s 10 minutes of work, I can say that.’ At that point, the house [work] was getting to be a lot for me...So I left this note and I came home on Sunday, everything was fine."
But, as Kristen continued, everything wasn't fine, since on Monday, Dax told her in bed "When you leave me notes, yeah, I feel really controlled." Kirsten initially didn't respond in anger, telling him she heard him and how she could make the experience easier. This led into emotions rising "And somehow, then we both blacked out and got into a fight and I don’t actually remember what happened but what transpired was a lot of volume, a lot of harsh words being thrown around, and it was an angry, angry fight."
Kristen says she stomped out of the room crying and slept in another room and the couple didn't talk for three days other than about things dealing with the children. Their cold war ended when Dax allowed her to bring home a rescue dog. "I didn’t get an apology, but I got a dog! [Since Shepard is allergic to dogs and requires hypoallergenic animals only] this is so much better than an apology." She added since then, Dax has been on top of helping with the household chores and anything else.
Kristen has been very open about their
volatile 10+ year
relationship which is somehow couple goals to many people, saying "We do fight, we do go to therapy, we dislike each other a lot sometimes."
