Despite the intentionally abrasive film name and main character, I really loved it and wished I'd caught it in theaters. It was a little too long, imo, but otherwise an engaging, compelling character study about the lead singer of an all-woman rock band and the people, mainly women, in her egotistical, self-destructive orbit.
The decision to film the story as five or six long scenes broken up by old "home videos" of the band was inspired and really added to the growing tension, and the cinematography and sound design made you feel like you were in the room. I didn't realize how invested I was until [Spoiler (click to open)]I started crying when Becky played "Heaven" for her daughter on the piano.
Tonight, I'm going to see The Turning with my cousin, since my husband had no interest whatsoever. Sure, it has 25% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it's a spooky house movie! That has to count for something.

seeing lighthouse tomorrow FINALLY!!!
also i'm testing out this movie streaming thing for work and it's got tons of interesting stuff. I saw Pasolini (shit), Bombshell the Hedy Lamarr story (v interesting, a little sad), Hitchcock/Truffaut (excellent), half of Bunch of Kunst (didn't really grab me) and about ten minutes of the Alice Guy-Blache doc (lol i thought it was so badly made?). still lots i need to watch from there before the demo user expires.
