Yesterday my colleague called me a 'book murderer' because I cut long books in half to make them more portable. Does anyone else do this? Is it just me? pic.twitter.com/VQUUdJMpwT

Ehhhhhhhhhh, this seems like a non-issue but also depending on the context, I get the weirdness around it. Like, does he do this just for his reading copy? A paperback he bought with the specific intention of doing this? I imagine most writers enjoy displaying their library to some degree so I can't fathom he's doing this to books he plans to display.

Mostly just let people do with their possessions what they like, I guess.

ETA: I had a ton of people throughout school get on me about the way I "treated" my books bc a lot of them were obsessed with keeping the books as pristine as possible. But I was a voracious reader, often reading at lunch and dinner, and a lot of my books became worn as a result. One of the best things about looking through my old Harry Potter books years back was seeing all the Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup and Kool-Aid stains on the pages from where I was just a wee 10 year old trying to consume every word as fast as humanly possible. It makes me feel like a book got used, it was important to someone.

As long as these books aren't like out on his coffee table, it can't look that bad to display them right? Like, if they're on your bookshelf and you've already got a lot of books would people if notice?

My Order of the Phoenix has cheeto on a number of pages. I must have eaten them while reading it.

My mom hates used~ books lol like she can't buy them if the binding is bent or even if a few corners are bent (which I can't do myself because the horror but I'll buy a book). Basically if they've lived a life Haha

It never bothered me but I'm like you where my books got worn out from being carried and read every where.

Definitely e-reader. When I got my kindle I sold/gave away all my books except for the rare ones (which I sadly lost later anyway)

I enjoy the aesthetic of books. This is truly upsetting. It actually took me a while to understand what I was looking at. This would look horrible on a bookshelf.
