richard lawson from vanity fair said he was told by someone at tiff that they weren't going to see hustlers because it didn't look like high art to them and it's depressing to think that's why it got snubbed in a bunch of categories

See this is why genres like fantasy, comedy, sci-fi, and horror get overlooked so hard at the awards. All they want is D R A M A, as if every film and performance nominated was really that good.

Ok? So what exactly do you need to do to win an Oscar? Be a white male or woman ? Sleep with someone?

You have to kiss a lot of ass, don't be too controversial and don't look like you want it too much, but don't be rude and act like you don't want it at all. Make a lot of money for the studios, pretend like your movie has some greater meaning in life than just entertainment, and either almost die at the end or die at the end.

It also helps to spend a lot of money on a PR firm that will plant articles about how great you are in as many publications as possible, get those covers of Vogue and Elle and Harper's Bazaar, and create buzz about you long before your movie even comes out. Florence Pugh, I'm looking at you.

I hate these so much. Its always the most miserable bastards giving their opinions. Also, Kathy Bates should not have been nominated, period.

I think Kathy Bates is a great actress but when I heard her name in the noms and not Park So-dam or Zhao Shuzhen or JLo I peaced out on the rest of the nominations.

Bates' entire performance is one note. just being concerned and weepy. the movie sucks, ugh, I hate that I predicted she'd even get the nom. I so wanted J Lo and Zhao Shuzhen to get nominated too.

Most of these mofos don't even watch the movies bc they don't feel like it or it isn't worthy for them. The Oscars have always been a joke, I feel like every year we have to go over this.
