richard lawson from vanity fair said he was told by someone at tiff that they weren't going to see hustlers because it didn't look like high art to them and it's depressing to think that's why it got snubbed in a bunch of categories

See this is why genres like fantasy, comedy, sci-fi, and horror get overlooked so hard at the awards. All they want is D R A M A, as if every film and performance nominated was really that good.

Yeah I hate it. I like comedies and, sorry, that's usually harder than dramatic acting for most people. Not everyone can do it.

Not even snubbed, completely disregarded and omitted altogether. There isn't even a comedic category for the Oscars, I don't think? A comedy not winning BP is one thing but to completely shut out any films from that genre? It's so blatant lol and stupid, because people need a laugh in this world. And also, not all comedies are some 'lowbrow' Will Ferrell movie if that's not what they're into; there's so many modes of comedy. It's just BS, and it's why I don't use 'academy awards' as a barometer of quality or enjoyability for a movie

It's always been the case. A lot of them don't even fill out their voting cards. There was some exposé years ago where people admitted to letting their family, friends and in some cases maids fill out their voting ballots cause they didn't give a fuck.
