My understanding is that her managers worked hard at discouraging her from auditioning and she was convinced not to. I guess it was only in hindsight that she realized that they were full of shit, lol.

Your agent, and at her level she should have a good one, is who mediates all auditions and either gives you the script, calls the production on your behalf or passes. If they are good, they will give you everything and you either want it, or you pass. Managers, however, are usually more worried about image and bottom line and sometimes do not follow what agents wants. But no, actors/actresses at her level should not go for things without clearing it with management/agent. It could actually get her fired by the agency

Sort of. Everything has to go through an agent. Producers are not going to talk to an actor directly. Their time is „way too valuable“. Just like I can’t sent an email to the MD. I have to send it to my boss and he would forward it to the MD

Seeing the headline at first I thought this was going to be from the people behind the film itself which would've made no sense since Henry Golding is half white (and for the record he is "Asian enough"). Her managers suck!
