I really love this whole thing. The stakes are so low, but it all means so much. Top notch reporting and top notch post, OP.

Side stories about lost dogs: My dog got clipped by my Uncle's car and ran off while at my parent's house (in the middle of no where) and I was worried he was laying dead in a ditch somewhere. I spotted him way the hell out in the middle of a corn field. That bitch was chasing deer! He was having the time of his life and my entire family was freaking out over him. Dogs gonna dog.

aww i'm glad your dog was ok!

the day after my wedding my dog got loose and followed a scent - right over the side of a fucking cliff (at night)! it was like a 60ft drop but we think she hit a ledge about halfway down. she wouldn't bark or respond to us calling for her. i was terrified, crying, it was so fucking awful. my husband went to go get her thinking she'd be really injured or worse. she was totally fine. had a tiny scrape on her rear and was ready to go on more adventures immediately, it didn't slow her down at all. meanwhile i was totally scarred from the incident and for a long time was super paranoid any time we took her out or even opened the door. this was now 3 years ago and all is well - she never had any problems from it!

Our neighbors have two of those dogs & paid like $4,000 for each. I get that they are show dogs but I legitimately cannot fathom spending $8,000 for two dogs when shelters exist.
