First reviews are in for Taika Waititi's 'Jojo Rabbit' and they are glowing

#JojoRabbit : Taika Waititi knocks it out of der park with the meaningful lunacy of his anti-hate satire. Title 10-year-old, a Nazi in training with Hitler as an imaginary friend, has something to learn: love conquers hate, and laughter makes it easier. #TIFF19 pic.twitter.com/V1eI5QFLvG

I read the script months ago. I am cautious about the movie. I think it is definitely one you have to see it to know how it lands for you, and I think it’s going to be one where people are going to have vastly different opinions.

It will be a love it or hate it, not for everyone.

Scar-why-you-exist-o, can still go kick rocks.

Lol OP I think you were a bit hasty here. All the positive reactions came first right after the premiere and then I started seeing all the mixed/negative ones, it's definitely pretty divisive. There's already a 60 and a 40 on Metacritic.

JOJO RABBIT: it’s the “The Goldfinch” of movies about kids who are imaginary best friends with Hitler. hurts me how little I liked this. #tiff19

My #TIFF19 review of the disappointing JOJO RABBIT. https://t.co/W7H8dV7hmj

JOJO RABBIT: Taika Waititi's proven himself to be remarkably good at portraying weighty themes from the perspective of a child, but I really, really don't think he managed to thread the needle with this one #tiff pic.twitter.com/lfCiuwGcEB

Yeah I started having that think after I heard about The Best of Enemies. One movie (Three Billboards) was one thing. But to have that right after? And now this? He already has his Oscar so I feel there has to be another reason he's been letting himself get typecast lately. And if it's the reason it might sadly be then RIP Guy Fleegleman.

Lmao my TL seems to be split, ppl live it and ppl seem to really really dislike it as well. I loved the screenplay so I’m wondering if I’ll still like it or if something really got lost in translation from page to screen.

Richard Lawson in particular seems to really dislike it, I’m looking forward to this week’s Little Gold Men bc I think one of the other hosts really like it.

Katey Rich? Tbf all she said is that the child actors are good, she may not have liked the movie as a whole. But I'll also be looking forward to Little Gold Men anyway.

It's cool when people take risks in the industry, particularly now when everything is an adaptation/sequel/preboot/remequel, but taking risks with a woobified Hitler? Other paths could have been chosen.

Uhhh I wouldn't say he's woobified. Obviously I haven't seen it yet but it seems like the point of the imaginary Hitler is that it's how a brainwashed young Nazi-in-the-making has been conditioned to see him.

i mean i've seen various outlets refer to taika-as-hitler as 'affable' and 'charming' so idk......

Isn't Hitler characterised as charming when he needs to be, though?
