What did y'all think about the inclusion of [Link to spoiler] Adrian Mellon? I'm... conflicted. I will say I did like that even with the little bit we saw of him before he was attacked you could tell he was an absolute sweetheart and it was clever how Richie saw him when he's typically connected to Eddie.

[Spoiler (click to open)] when Adrian kissed his boyfriend a dude sitting a few seats down from me like audibly gagged, I was upset. I still don’t know what I think of it honestly, I’m gonna need more time to consider it.

I did like the that vision of Adrian Richie saw not just bc he’s obviously paralleled to Eddie, but also because that image of a young gay man who should have had a long life handing Richie his own obituary...the levels there I guess. Also the jacket Adrian was wearing reminded me of the shirt young Richie was wearing and the Meg Ryan insult made me think of the Molly Ringwald insult from the first movie. So it’s like Adrian became an amalgamation of both Richie and Eddie in a way. At least to me.

[Link to spoiler] I was seriously worried someone would do that in my theater. I'm sure the asshole who did that in yours was less disgusted with them being brutally attacked for being gay than they were by them just being gay.

Totally agree about the vision of Adrian. Even though I'm still going back and forth about the opening scene, I do think having him be seen by Richie did a lot in a good way. I felt so terrible for Richie when he was crushing on that boy and was being super soft but then dude's Bowers genes were exposed.

[Spoiler (click to open)]the attack was absolutely miserable to sit through, but i did like how they went out of their way to establish him as a sympathetic, kind character so there was no risk of reading it in that typical horror-movie way where you're supposed to cheer for the gruesome death bc the person 'deserves' it in some way.

his connection to richie helped salvage it somewhat too for me, since we get an example of a gay character who gets to survive (albeit with some tragedy).

and maybe it's a small thing but i appreciated they got a gay actor to play the role too. overall i'm also conflicted, but i'm okay with how it all panned out, all things considered, i guess.

I loved Bill Hader/Richie. In fact, I think the casting was believable for all of them and it really felt like it was those characters 27 years later. (Although I don't think Jessica and Sophia look alike at all)

I /hated/ the cgi on the young cast esp Richie and Ben. It was more distracting than their actual aged faces would've been imo

Okay so. I thought the movie was not as good as the first. And I also thought it was kind of a mess. But I liked it a lot? It was fucking weird and it’s wild to me that WB let them. And it didn’t apologize for its weirdness? I’m really being more forgiving of it than I should be, because I like that it was ambitious enough to go for it. I’d rather have an ambitious attempt than something that tried to...sand down the cracked out nature of the book. Also I love that it had an ending.

Performance wise well...Bill Hader wins. He’s just so fucking good and I love him. Also special shout out to Finn, who yes was bogged down with wonky CGI and the voice pitching was really jarring (for all of the kids but after watching ST for three seasons like...you know what he looked and sounded like at 13), but made me cry [Spoiler (click to open)] during the arcade scene. showing Richie’s softness and openness and like...this yearning was so sweet and then heartbreaking bc of what happened with Bowers Controversial opinion but James Ransone’s Eddie > Jack Grazer’s Eddie. I enjoyed it as much as the first but in a different way. I think when I do rewatches when the blu ray comes out, I'll start the movie at the restaurant scene 'cause the realistic brutality took a lot of out of me which I know it was supposed to do. But I loved how fucking weird it was! [Link to spoiler] Once that baby head batbird thing came out of the fortune cookie I was like "Let's do it" lmao.

I'm in love with James' Eddie spiritually and romantically. HE TOOK THAT KNIFE OUT HIS FACE AND STABBED HENRY WITH IT *THEN* INSULTED HIS HAIR!!

James Ransone is insanely good in this movie and I love him and [Spoiler (click to open)] when he stabbed Henry and still insulted him? THE BEST SCENE IN THE MOVIE! Also his performance after Stanley’s head is attacking Richie and Bill yells at him is so heartbreaking. And then he’s so happy he thinks he killed It, and Richie is coming back around from the Deadlights and is just looking up at Eddie 🥺😢 i fucking cried dude. I don’t care what anyone says, Eddie loves him back, the way they said each other’s names at the end proves it. Maybe “I fucked your mom” will be our always?

I know a lot of Reddies were mad about his last line but it completely makes sense with their relationship as we have seen it. It looked to me like he realized he wasn't going to make it and he didn't want Richie to be even more hurt than he already was in the moment so he tried to be the Richie and make a joke so I found it very sweet.
