what a damn mess.

British ONTDers, what are the chances a no confidence vote would actually succeed? I'm assuming the Tories are all on side with this plan ergo they're totally cool with hijacking the government for No Deal, but I'd love to be wrong.

Problem is that even the Tories who hate him would rather back him and keep their own jobs rather than not back him, possibly go to a general election and then potentially lose their place as a memberof parliament. Everyone's so self-serving in government and that's why it's so fucked.

There are two potential hurdles - one is whether they'd get enough Tories to do it (it's possible but just as possible their self-interest would win out). The other is that there's opposition to the alternatives too and the risk is that rather than going 'come on it has to be anything but no deal, don't worry about who your preferred option is' people wouldn't back whoever's stepping up to say they'd replace him.

Yes. We're on an incredibly tight timeline to stop a no deal Brexit and they've prorogued Parliament to stop them going after any of the most effective methods.

Because the fuckers all have bets on our crashing economy and stand to make money from it.

For all that May was a terrible option, she was the best of a thoroughly bad lot. So when it came to this time around Johnson was the only one of them with enough popular appeal built up - through all his time masquerading as a harmless jolly old buffoon and playing the populist.

It's astounding given how bad his record is, but he's basically faked it until he made it through his entire career.
