I don't know a whole lot about the situation, but it seems like people are expecting her to have had the clout and negotiation powers to sign an initial contract (at aged 14 as a nobody) that meant she owned her masters? If there were further negotiations later on in her career that could have given her the option however, the whole thing is very different.
No one's expecting her to have made a deal to own her masters because almost no one has them. If she had tried to make owning the masters part of her initial deal, she probably wouldn't have been signed anywhere and it's really unlikely that she would've ever become famous and rich the way she did, Most of the time, signing over those rights to the music is the whole point of the record deal because that's how the labels have historically made their money.
She was able to get a rare deal today where she owns her recordings from now one, but that's because she's the biggest popstar in the world and they expect the amount of money she'll make them even without owning her recordings will far outweigh not being able to sign her at all.
Right, this all makes total sense. Her people look really dumb for riling up all this drama, as do the other celebs getting involved tbh. I get that Taylor's not happy, but she has to understand that's the way the cookie crumbles and just move on.
I don’t think anyone assumed that because this literally happens to every musician. It’s just very self serving for her to make a big deal out of it now, rather than present her issue with the public and be the voice of change when it comes to record deals, she clearly didn’t care enough when it wasn’t affecting her, which I understand, but she knew her contract was ending why not fight to make a change then?!
i'm sorry but taylor is too old to be making pop music. this is the age when the industry kicks you out. i don't know why she has 'transitioned to pop' when she has sat on the fence her whole career. i don't see her future albums making as much money as her past albums did. perhaps that's why she's upset.
the masters thing is a thing literally...every artist goes through. wish her luck.
Maybe this will shed light on the inner workings of the business for women like them. I would imagine they probably have publishing rights at the very least.
Also I don't know how the masters would work with Britney? Britney doesn't really write her own songs (only a few) , so I wonder how the masters would work for her?? Like how much piece of the pie would she get here?🥧
Taylor at least I can see why she's ardent since she writes her songs.

I wonder if Britney, Madonna or Beyoncé have tried to get their masters and how that goes for them considering how long they’ve been in the game.

but Madonna and Beyoncé are business girls and calculated so I assume they have their dealings.
