Honestly it’s an impressive story IF they did it on their own/are an avid mountain climber and climbed it with support, but only if they’ve climbed other mountains before. I don’t find it very impressive if Everest is the only mountain they’ve climbed. Because at the end of the day Everest isn’t even the hardest Himalayan peak to climb. It’s just the highest and therefore trophy hunters salivate at bagging it
I was in Nepal (not trekking, visiting a relative) at the same time this was happening and it was absolutely insane to see the straight up hubris of some of the trekkers I came across. The amount of money that under-qualified, bored people are willing to spend just to climb to the top of a mountain (all while polluting the surroundings, often exploiting the locals, and generally being the worst) is staggering.
Idk, I didn't go anywhere near the mountains and I had an amazing time, ate some amazing food, and I don't feel any worse off for it.
Idek what the thrill of climbing an overcrowded mountain is. Doesn’t being surrounded by other tourists and waiting in a LINE kind of spoil the mood?? Tourists have really ruined all the stuff that used to seem adventurous.
All that effort to kill yourself, others and the sherpa´s, littering an entire mountainside just because you want a pic for Instagram. Social media continues to be a shithole
