I'm glad she's okay and hasn't been banned from acting.

serious question: why would they? how could she pay taxes if she was not allowed to do things that net her high fees to pay the taxes from? i mean, i suppose she could just do modelling and sponser things, but i'd imagine that could dry up if she wasnt also at least somewhat active acting wise?
or is it that people have to be a 'good example' if they are in the spotlight?

The Chinese government aren't exactly known for being benevolent. And yes, they can ban you from acting and have done soo to other stars for less than income tax evasion.

I used to be so excited about this and now I feel bleh. Even though she's a nut I love Cotillard (as an actress) and want to see her in more things. Her English language career just kind of abruptly died the last few years.

I fins her very meh in English language films. I vastly prefer her work in French. Also, I'll never stop laughing that this movie is gonna be directed by a man. Even funnier is that excluding this movie he only has two directing credits (Dark Phoenix and an episode of the new Twilight Zone). Good Luck!

I just "love" that all of Chastain's producing efforts so far have gone to white male directors. Between that and the whole Matthew Newton debacle I'm not really planning on seeing anything she's making in the next few years.
