I watched Turtles Are Surprisingly Fast Swimmers on NYE and loved it, I think it's my new favourite film. So funny! Yesterday I watched Grey Gardens and I adore them and they broke my heart. Earlier I watched Phantom Thread (wow, and also ...woah) and right now my mum and I are watching The Women. We love the 1939 original, and we love Meg Ryan, so we're pretending that this version is good too.
I hope you like it if you watch it! Bits of it reminded me slightly of Wes Anderson, but just nice and silly instead of being precious. Ughhhh Phantom Thread was wonderful! <3 Really gripping and strange. And I'm trying to resist spending money I don't have on neckties now lol
Vicky Krieps was r o b b e d HARD of a nomination! DDL is good but like come on she owned that movie!! Lesley Manville was great too and I wished she would've had more scenes.
I totally forgot about The Current War! At some point we were working on a history channel doc (that will probably now be stuck in development hell forever) about westinghouse vs edison and I was waiting for this movie to come out for research lol
I thought about asking my sister to record it for me and watching it the next morning, but I only care if I'm spoiler free so that would mean total social media and internet ban, which would be fine but I don't think I careeeee enough, so I'll just follow alone on social media/here lol
We stayed in and watched Magnolia for the first time on NYE, and wow. What a strange and ambitious film. It made me miss Philip Seymour Hoffman a lot, and Julianne Moore is unbearably beautiful in it. I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it, though.
We also watched You Were Never Really Here the other night. It was intriguing and well-paced with some deliberate and unusual cinematography choices, and Joaquin Phoenix was great, but I can't say that I loved it.
I saw Beale street and it was unsurprisingly amazing. I also watched Where Hands Touch which was as bad as Beale street was amazing. I’m going to try to force myself to watch the green book before the globes on Sunday.
